St. Arnaud and Nelson Lakes National Park
From Marahau you will travel south, passing one National Park (Kahurangi) into another (Nelson Lakes). The northern mountains of the Southern Alps and two alpine lakes are part of this park. Spend the night in St. Arnaud.
The mountains around this area are where the ring carriers hid from Saruman’s Crows. Parts of the Escape from Moria and the departure of the Riders of Rohan from Edoras were filmed here.

Tip: Feeling tired following the footsteps of Middle Earth? Refresh yourself with a scenic boating trip or a canoe. If you feel like something a little more action packed, try white water rafting or skiing at Rainbow Valley.
